RESUMO

Co-intercalation reactions make graphite a feasible anode in Ca ion batteries, yet the correlation between Ca ion intercalation behaviors and electrolyte structure remains unclear. This study, for the first time, elucidates the pivotal role of anions in modulating the Ca ion solvation structures and their subsequent intercalation into graphite. Specifically, the electrostatic interactions between Ca ion and anions govern the configurations of solvated-Ca-ion in dimethylacetamide-based electrolytes and graphite intercalation compounds. Among the anions considered (BH4-, ClO4-, TFSI- and [B(hfip)4]-), the coordination of four solvent molecules per Ca ion (CN=4) leads to the highest reversible capacities and the fastest reaction kinetics in graphite. Our study illuminates the origins of the distinct Ca ion intercalation behaviors across various anion-modulated electrolytes, employing a blend of experimental and theoretical approaches. Importantly, the practical viability of graphite anodes in Ca-ion full cells is confirmed, showing significant promise for advanced energy storage systems.

RESUMO

Background: Cancer-related anemia (CRA) is a functional iron deficient anemia, and the early diagnosis will improve the prognosis of the patients. This prospective study aimed to investigate the utility of mean reticulocyte volume (MRV) in the early diagnosis of CRA. Methods: A total of 284 first-diagnosed cancer patients were enrolled, and the subjects were assigned anemia and non-anemia groups by hemoglobin (Hb) concentrations. The mature RBC and reticulocyte indices were detected with BC-7500 blood analyzer, and the MRV, reticulocyte hemoglobin (RHE) content, and reticulocyte production index (RPI) were obtained. ROC curves were constructed in identifying anemia diagnosed by the combination of RHE and RPI. An adjusted multivariate analyse and quartiles were used to assess the associations of MRV with early CRA diagnosed by combining RBC indices (MCV, MCH and MCHC), respectively. Results: No statistical differences were observed in MCV, RHE and MRV levels between anemia and non-anemia subjects (p > 0.05). MRV exhibited a complete or high correlation with the RHE levels (r = 1.000, p < 0.001), or MCV, MCH, and MCHC in anemia patients (R: 0.575-0.820, p < 0.001). ROC curves analyse indicated a highest area under curve of 0.829 (95% CI [0.762-0.895]) and 0.884 (95% CI [0.831-0.936]) for MRV in identifying anemia in male and female patients, respectively (p < 0.001). When the optimal cutoff values of MRV were set at 100.95 fl in males and 98.35 fl in females, the sensitivity and specificity were 1.00 and 0.68, and 1.00 and 0.73, respectively. The regression analyse showed that, when being as a categorical variable, MRV showed an odds ratio of 19.111 (95% CI [6.985-52.288]; p < 0.001) for the incidence of CRA. The incidence of overall anemia demonstrated a more significant decrease trend along with the increase of MRV quartiles (p-trend < 0.001). Conclusion: This study revealed that the MRV can be used as a convenient and sensitive index in early diagnosis of cancer-related anemia, and decreased MRV level may be the powerful predictor of overt anemia in cancer patients.

RESUMO

Background: Inflammatory and hemostatic disorders in diabetic microangiopathy (DMA) can be linked to thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI) and its own gene polymorphisms. Thus, the study aimed to investigate the associations of plasma TAFI and gene polymorphisms with DMA in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods: Plasma TAFI of 223 patients with T2D was measured, and the genotypes and alleles of the 1040C/T, 438G/A, and 505G/A polymorphisms of the TAFI gene were analyzed. A ROC curve was constructed to evaluate the identifying power of TAFI between patients with T2D and DMA, and logistic regression analysis was used to observe the correlation of plasma TAFI and gene polymorphisms with the risk for DMA. Results: Plasma TAFI was higher in patients with DMA than in patients with only T2D (p < 0.05). TAFI exhibited the largest area under ROC in identifying diabetic kidney disease (DKD) from only T2D (0.763, 95% CI [0.674-0.853], p < 0.01), and adjusted multivariate analysis showed a high odds ratio (OR: 15.72, 95% CI [4.573-53.987], p < 0.001) for DKD. Higher frequencies of the CT genotype and T allele of the 1040C/T polymorphism were found in DKD compared with only T2D (respectively p < 0.05), and the CT genotype exhibited a high OR (1.623, 95% CI [1.173-2.710], p < 0.05) for DKD. DKD patients with the CT genotype had higher plasma TAFI levels, while T2D and DKD patients with CC/TT genotypes had lower plasma TAFI levels. Conclusion: Plasma TAFI and the CT genotype and T allele of the 1040C/T polymorphism are independent risk factors for DKD in Chinese T2D patients.

RESUMO

Multivalent metal batteries (MMBs) have been considered potentially high-energy and low-cost alternatives to commercial Li-ion batteries, thus attracting tremendous research interest for energy-storage applications. However, the plating and stripping of multivalent metals (i.e., Zn, Ca, Mg) suffer from low Coulombic efficiencies and short cycle life, which are largely rooted in the unstable solid electrolyte interphase. Apart from exploring new electrolytes or artificial layers for robust interphases, fundamental works on deciphering interfacial chemistry have also been conducted. This work is dedicated to summarizing the state-of-the-art advances in understanding the interphases for multivalent metal anodes revealed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods. Operando and cryogenic TEM with high spatial and temporal resolutions realize the dynamic visualization of the vulnerable chemical structures in interphase layers. Following a scrutinization of the interphases on different metal anodes, we elucidate their features for appealing multivalent metal anodes. Finally, perspectives are proposed for the remaining issues on analyzing and regulating interphases for practical MMBs.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: Cold agglutinins are related with B cell lymphoproliferative disorder and lymphoma, and can agglutinate red blood cells (RBCs) at an optimum temperature of 3-4°C, which is the undergoing cause of RBCs cold agglutination. RBC cold agglutination may lead to an extreme abnormality of RBC parameters of complete blood count (CBC). PATIENT CONCERNS: The present study reports a case of an old patient with severe infectious fever and anemia presenting extremely abnormal levels of RBC parameters in CBC and a sand-like appearance of blood on tube wall. The validating tests indicated the presence of the RBCs cold agglutination and the highly suspected B cell lymphoma. DIAGNOSES: The 37°C-incubation corrected the CBC results of the patient, and the microscopic observation and flow cytometry analysis of blood and marrow indicated many abnormal B lymphocytes. Subsequently, the patient was diagnosed with a highly suspected B-cell lymphoma. INTERVENTIONS: The blood with a sand-like appearance was reanalyzed to validate the cold agglutination by 37°C-water incubation. The smears of peripheral blood and marrow were made for morphological observation by using optical microscopy. Moreover, the clusters of differentiation of the white blood cells were analyzed to confirm the type of abnormal white blood cells with a flow cytometer. OUTCOMES: The RBCs cold agglutination was validated, and the highly suspected B cell lymphoma was proved as the undergoing cause. LESSONS: This case focuses on the discovery and solutions of RBCs cold agglutination, and emphasizes the importance of microscopic observation in the exploration of undergoing causes of cold agglutination.

RESUMO

(1) Background: Pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) is associated with obvious microbiota dysbiosis in the third trimester of pregnancy. However, the mechanisms behind these changes remain unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the relationship between the gut microbiome in early pregnancy and PIH occurrence. (2) Methods: A nested case-control study design was used based on the follow-up cohort. Thirty-five PIH patients and thirty-five matched healthy pregnant women were selected as controls. The gut microbiome profiles were assessed in the first trimester using metagenomic sequencing. (3) Results: Diversity analyses showed that microbiota diversity was altered in early pregnancy. At the species level, eight bacterial species were enriched in healthy controls: Alistipes putredinis, Bacteroides vulgatus, Ruminococcus torques, Oscillibacter unclassified, Akkermansia muciniphila, Clostridium citroniae, Parasutterella excrementihominis and Burkholderiales bacterium_1_1_47. Conversely, Eubacterium rectale, and Ruminococcus bromii were enriched in PIH patients. The results of functional analysis showed that the changes in these different microorganisms may affect the blood pressure of pregnant women by affecting the metabolism of vitamin K2, sphingolipid, lipid acid and glycine. (4) Conclusion: Microbiota dysbiosis in PIH patients begins in the first trimester of pregnancy, and this may be associated with the occurrence of PIH. Bacterial pathway analyses suggest that the gut microbiome might lead to the development of PIH through the alterations of function modules.

RESUMO

Background: Aspartate aminotransferase-to-alanine transaminase ratio (AST/ALT) has been reported affect the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2DM), but it is uncertain if it has relationship with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Objectives: Our study aimed to investigate the association between AST/ALT ratio in the first trimester and the risk of subsequent development of GDM. Method: This prospective cohort study enrolling 870 pregnant women, 204 pregnant women with missing data or liver diseases were excluded, 666 pregnant women were included in this study containing 94 GDM women. Blood samples were collected in the first trimester. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression were used to evaluate the association between AST/ALT and GDM. Nomogram was established based on the results of multivariate logistic analysis. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves and calibration curves were used to evaluate the predictive ability of this nomogram model for GDM. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to examine the clinical net benefit of predictive model. Results: AST/ALT ratio (RR:0.228; 95% CI:0.107-0.488) was associated with lower risk of GDM after adjusting for confounding factors. Indicators used in nomogram including AST/ALT, maternal age, preBMI, waist circumference, glucose, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein cholesterol and parity. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) value of this predictive model was 0.778, 95% CI (0.724, 0.832). Calibration curves for GDM probabilities showed acceptable agreement between nomogram predictions and observations. The DCA curve demonstrated a good positive net benefit in the predictive model. Conclusions: The early AST/ALT level of pregnant women negatively correlated with the risk of GDM. The nomogram including AST/ALT at early pregnancy shows good predictive ability for the occurrence of GDM.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To explore the efficacy and safety of minocycline as adjuvant therapy for refractory mycoplasma pneumonia in Chinese children. METHODS: PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang database and VIP database were systematically searched. Studies where minocycline was used as adjuvant therapy for refractory mycoplasma pneumonia in Chinese children were included. The effect of numeration data and the measurement data were represented by odds ratios (OR) and weighted mean differences (MD), respectively. Review Manager version 5.3 was used to compare the treatment efficacy, time for the cough to subside, defervescence time, hospitalisation time, adverse events and other indicators. RESULTS: Ten studies involving 857 patients were included in the final analysis. Compared with the conventional treatment of refractory mycoplasma pneumonia in children, the addition of minocycline as adjuvant therapy was found to improve the treatment efficacy (OR: 5.45; 95% CI: 3.46, 8.57, p < 0.001); shorten the duration of cough (MD: -3.61; 95%CI: -4.25, -2.97, p < 0.001), fever time (MD: -4.77; 95% CI: -6.30, -3.23, p < 0.001) and hospitalisation time (MD: -5.53 (95% CI: -7.19, -3.88, p < 0.001); and decrease the concentration of C-reactive protein (MD: -13.95; 95%CI: -18.61, -9.29; p < 0.001) and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (MD: -10.88; 95% CI: -14.05, -7.72, p < 0.001). The use of minocycline did not lead to significant adverse events (OR = 0.63; 95% CI: 0.39, 1.01, p = 0.05). CONCLUSION: The use of minocycline as adjuvant treatment of refractory mycoplasma pneumonia in Chinese children has good efficacy and safety and may be promoted in clinical practice.

RESUMO

With the rapid development of soft computing technology, various models and comprehensive analysis methods are emerging one after another, and new theories and research results continue to emerge, showing great strength and development potential in actual theoretical research and engineering applications. This paper analyzes the air pollution detection and environmental responsibility of sports clubs based on RBF neural networks, constructs the corresponding neural network algorithm, and simulates and analyzes the data. In the process of simulation design, we adjust the weight and threshold of the network according to the error performance of the network to realize the functions required by the system. Different models were used to predict the concentration of air pollutants in typical cities. At the same time, a meta-analysis method was used to conduct a preliminary discussion on the impact of air pollutants on the health of the Chinese population, and some research results were obtained. In the past years, Chinese sports clubs have also built a solid social environmental protection system around the related environmental protection responsibilities of sports clubs. The research on green environmental monitoring has improved people's awareness of environmental responsibility and provided technical support for the green development of sports clubs.

RESUMO

Lymphatic malformation-6 (LMPHM6) is a rarer form of nonimmune hydrops that often manifests as widespread lymphedema involving all segments of the body, namely, subcutaneous edema, intestinal/pulmonary lymphangiectasia, chylothoraces, and pleural/pericardial effusions. Here, we detected one rare and previously unobserved homozygous missense variant in PIEZO1 (c.5162C>G, p.Ser1721Trp) as a novel genetic cause of autosomal recessive LMPHM6, in a family with three adverse pregnancy outcomes due to nonimmune fetal hydrops. Although, the loss-of-function mutations such as those usually including nonsense, frameshift, splice site, and also fewer missense variants in PIEZO1 have been proved to lead to LMPHM6, among these, the biallelic homozygous mutations resulting in the loss of function of PIEZO1 have not been reported before. Here, we first strongly implicated impaired PIEZO1 function-associated LMPHM6 with a homozygous missense mutation in PIEZO1.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Oral potential malignant disorders (OPMDs) are a precancerous condition of oral disease. Several studies have found that betel quid chewing, smoking and alcohol drinking might be the risk factors of OPMDs. But the relationships of them, especially their interaction are still inconclusive. AIM: To evaluate the relationship between betel quid chewing and OPMDs and to explore the interaction of smoking and alcohol drinking on the relationship. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and the Cochrane Library databases with items complete until January 2021 for relevant studies. The research data were extracted according to the inclusion criteria. The pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to evaluate the effect size. Subgroup analysis was performed to assess interactions between exposures and OPMDs. Relative excess risk of interaction (RERI) was used to estimate the size of interaction. RESULTS: Nine articles were selected in the final meta-analysis. The results showed that betel quid chewing (pooled OR: 8.70, 95%CI: 5.18-14.61), alcohol consumption (pooled OR: 1.95, 95%CI: 1.5-2.55), and smoking (pooled OR:4.35, 95%CI: 3.06-6.2) could significantly increase the risk of OPMDs compared to individuals without these behaviors. Smoking and alcohol drinking synergistically increased the association between betel quid chewing and OPMDs (pooled OR(BQ+SM):14.38, 95%CI: 7.14-28.95; pooled OR(BQ+DK): 11.12, 95%CI: 8.00-15.45, respectively). The RERI(BQ+SM) and RERI(BQ+DK) were 2.33 and 1.47, respectively. CONCLUSION: The synergistic effects between smoking/drinking and betel quid highlights the importance of focusing on individuals with multiple exposures. Further study should be conducted to confirm these interactions.

RESUMO

Background: Mast cell leukemia (MCL) is a highly life-threatening and extremely rare subtype of systemic mastocytosis (SM). MCL often genetically contains one or more somatic mutations, particularly activating mutations of KIT. This study reported on an acute MCL patient who had a rare phenotype and genetic mutants with a history of primary malignant mediastinal germ cell tumor (GCT). Case Presentation: A 30-year-old Asian male patient who underwent two rounds of surgery and chemotherapy with a history of primary mediastinal GCT (PM-GCTs) was admitted to our hospital due to persistent chest pain and severe fatigue. The diagnosis of acute MCL was confirmed via morphology analysis and chemical staining of marrow aspirate, as well as via marrow biopsy, with the addition of C-findings that included splenomegaly and cytopenia. The atypical MCs were phenotypically positive for CD117 and CD9 but weakly positive for CD2 and negative for CD25. Next-generation sequencing of the marrow aspirate identified heterozygous mutations in TP53 P301Qfs*44, FLT3 R973X, SETBP1 N272D, and JAK3 I688F, whereas mutations in KIT were not found. Although the initial therapy of corticosteroids, ruxolitinib, and dasatinib-based regimens was effective, he died of acute respiratory distress syndrome after the first cycle of chemotherapy with cladribine and cytarabine. The patient's survival time was 2.4 months after the initial presentation of MCL. Conclusion: In this case, MCL preceded by PM-GCTs had similar clinical symptoms and morphological manifestations but distinctly different genetic profiles than primary MCL. The characteristic morphology of MCL provides the most pivotal evidence that led our diagnosis in the correct direction. A competing hypothesis is that there is a common embryonal cancer stem cell between PM-GCTs and secondary MCL, and the latter is gradually developed in the context of additional "driver mutations".

RESUMO

Genome-wide DNA methylation profiling have been used to find maternal CpG sites related to the occurrence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, none of these differential sites found has been verified in a larger sample. Here, our aim was to evaluate whether first trimester changes in target CpG sites in the peripheral blood of pregnancy women predict subsequent development of GDM. This nested case-control study was based upon an early pregnancy follow-up cohort (ChiCTR1900020652). Target CpG sites were extracted from related published literature and bioinformatics analysis. The DNA methylation levels at 337 CpG sites of 80 GDM cases and 80 matched healthy controls during the early pregnancy (10-15 weeks) were assessed using MethylTarget sequencing. The best cut-off level for methylation of CpG site was determined using the generated ROC curve. The independent effect of CpG site methylation status on GDM was analyzed using conditional logistic regression. Methylation levels at 6 CpG sites were significantly higher in the GDM group than in controls, whereas those at another 6 CpG sites were significantly lower (FDR < 0.05). The area under the ROC curve at each methylation level of the significant CpG sites ranged between 0.593 and 0.650 for the occurrence of GDM. After adjusting for possible confounders, the hypermethylation status of CpG site 68167324 (OR = 3.168, 1.038-9.666) and 24837915 (OR = 5.232, 1.659-16.506) was identified as more strongly associated with GDM; meanwhile, the hypermethylation of CpG site 157130156 (OR = 0.361, 0.135-0.966) and 89438648 (OR = 0.206, 0.065-0.655) might indicate lower risk of GDM. The methylation status of target CpG sites in the peripheral blood of pregnant women during the first trimester may be associated with GDM pathogenesis, and has potential as a predictor of GDM.

RESUMO

To systemically analyze megakaryocytes in pleural and peritoneal fluids and their clinical significance. We retrospectively examined 10,846 pleural, peritoneal, and pericardial fluid samples obtained from 3 hospitals over a 20-year period. Megakaryocytes were observed in the pleural fluid samples from 7 patients and peritoneal fluid samples from 2 patients, and the incidence was 0.83%. The clinical diagnoses of these 9 patients included myeloproliferative disorders, trauma, and tumors. The serous effusions in all 9 patients were bloody, and the megakaryocytes could be associated with trauma, bone marrow pollution, extramedullary hematopoiesis, or cancer. Additionally, differentiating between megakaryocytes and tumor cells or nuclear mesothelial cells in the pleural fluid is difficult. Therefore, megakaryocytes should be carefully observed and differentiated in pleural and peritoneal fluids because they can be confused with other cells in the clinic. Altogether, the megakaryocytes in the pleural and peritoneal fluids were mainly associated with contamination in the bone marrow or extramedullary hematopoiesis.

RESUMO

Carica papaya L. is an important economic crop worldwide and is used as a model plant for sex-determination research. To study the different flower sex types, we screened sex-related genes using alternative splicing sequences (AS-seqs) from a transcriptome database of the three flower sex types, i.e., males, females, and hermaphrodites, established at 28 days before flowering using 15 bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) of C. papaya L. After screening, the cDNA regions of the three sex-related loci, including short vegetative phase-like (CpSVPL), the chromatin assembly factor 1 subunit A-like (CpCAF1AL), and the somatic embryogenesis receptor kinase (CpSERK), which contained eight sex-related single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from the different sex types of C. papaya L., were genotyped using high-resolution melting (HRM). The three loci were examined regarding the profiles of the third whorl, as described below. CpSVPL, which had one SNP associated with the three sex genotypes, was highly expressed in the male and female sterile flowers (abnormal hermaphrodite flowers) that lacked the fourth whorl structure. CpCAF1AL, which had three SNPs associated with the male genotype, was highly expressed in male and normal hermaphrodite flowers, and had no AS-seqs, whereas it exhibited low expression and an AS-seqs in intron 11 in abnormal hermaphrodite flowers. Conversely, carpellate flowers (abnormal hermaphrodite flowers) showed low expression of CpSVPL and AS-seqs in introns 5, 6, and 7 of CpSERK, which contained four SNPs associated with the female genotype. Specifically, the CpSERK and CpCAF1AL loci exhibited no AS-seq expression in the third whorl of the male and normal hermaphrodite flowers, respectively, and variance in the AS-seq expression of all other types of flowers. Functional mapping of the third whorl of normal hermaphrodites indicated no AS-seq expression in CpSERK, low CpSVPL expression, and, for CpCAF1AL, high expression and no AS-seq expression on XYh-type chromosomes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to describe changes in follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol (E2), ovarian volume (OV), and antral follicle count (AFC), and to examine their relationships at the same menopause stage, based on the Stages of Reproductive Aging Workshop (STRAW) system, among Chinese women in community settings. METHODS: Prospective longitudinal study design was used to analyze the sex hormone levels, OV, and AFC of 327 community women aged 30 to 65 years. They were followed up at 1 year. RESULTS: Significant differences in FSH, E2, and OV were observed at baseline and on follow-up (all P<0.001). Significant differences in E2 were observed between baseline and follow-up for women in premenopause (-2.743, P=0.006) and late postmenopause (-5.213, P<0.001). There were significant differences in FSH between baseline and follow-up in early menopausal transition (MT) (-2.430, P=0.015) and late MT (-3.737, P<0.001). There were significant differences in OV between baseline and follow-up in late MT (-3.805, P<0.001) and early postmenopause (-4.341, P<0.001). There were significant differences in AFC between baseline and follow-up in premenopause (-2.046, P=0.041). CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest the existence of significant associations between FSH, E2, OV, AFC, and menopause status, supporting the use of the STRAW system among community-based women in China. Further study of the MT is recommended to confirm the appropriateness of the STRAW system for Chinese women.
